A Word from the Board Chair
Greetings from PATH:
As I write this, we are having our first blizzard of the year. The wind is howling
and snow is blowing, but in its own way, it is really quite pretty. We have our
Christmas lights on, and they are twinkling in the snow, but poor Frosty the
Snowman is really waving in the wind.
I am sitting here reflecting on this past year and thinking “Oh, My!” the changes
that have happened since the last time I wrote the annual letter are amazing!
One of our focuses has changed a little this year, and that is on recruitment. Several Recruitment
and Licensing Specialists have been added to our staff, and they are recruiting families and
homes for North Dakota. For instance, Kate Kenna was hired in the Grand Forks office, recruiting
for the NE part of North Dakota. We have gone from 25 to currently 48 homes, and have several
licenses in the process!
With the recruitment push, we have had several spots on “North Dakota Today,” talking about
what being a foster parent is all about and what to do if you are interested. Matthew Hallaway
has also done several FaceBook Live broadcasts with staff and foster parents to get the recruitment
We have two PATH offices that have relocated — one in Bismarck, located at 600 S. 2nd St., Suite
220, and the other in Dickinson, located at 1674 15th Street West, Suite 3.
In February, we had our “Giving Hearts” day, and with 216 donors from 53 town/cities and 16
states, we raised $24,087.69! Amazing, yes? Totally awesome! I am happy to report that we again
had 100% participation from the PATH Board of Directors.
In March, PATH North Dakota, and PATH Idaho affiliated with NEXUS, a Minnesota-based 501(c)3
nonprofit organization, to be able to provide more services to our youth and families. PATH MN
merged with Kindred Family Focus, making it the largest private foster care and
adoption agency in Minnesota.
This fall, we enjoyed four new designs on the billboards that Newman Signs donated. The themes
were Foster Family/ Foster Love/ Foster Hope, and be a Foster Parent. A huge thank you to the
Newman family for this wonderful donation!
PATH now has the Trauma and Stress Clinic, located in the Fargo PATH Office. PATH is also using
screening tools for trauma and suicide prevention; tools that will help us help our youth even
With all this going on, I’m wondering what 2018 will bring.
From our house to yours, may you have a wonderful 2018!
