SAFETY Moving Beyond Every child and family deserves to be safe from maltreatment, abuse, and neglect. Unfortunately, 1 in 4 children experiences some form of maltreatment during their lifetime.7 Children who grow up in homes with family violence, drugs, parental death, imprisonment, gang violence, neglect, abuse, and other issues are more likely to have emotional problems, behavioral problems, poor socialization, risky behaviors, substance abuse, homelessness, unemployment, criminal behavior, and long-term mental health issues. We provide these youth with a safe place to face their emotional and behavioral chal-lenges, and teach them tools to help them reconnect with the community, find em-ployment, and successfully conquer substance abuse. Our work helps the whole family heal and move forward. Sometimes, that means helping a family work through a crisis. Sometimes that means helping a youth find a safe, loving foster or adoptive home.
