Elizabeth Williams Associate Director NOV/DEC 2018 | 24 Director’s Report The holiday season is upon us, and our staff have been hard at work planning special events for our youth to help them celebrate. In October, we all pitched in to have a pumpkin carving/coloring contest, costume contest, and scavenger hunt. During November, we focused our efforts on how we can cultivate a mindset and practice of gratitude, topping it off with the youth and staff participating in a gratitude tree that decorated our cottage. The staff and youth were also able to come together and do our first ever Chili Cookoff, which was a succes. Our big winner was YCP, Lola Kostrzewski’s secret recipe! As our year comes to an end and as our staff begin to reflect on all that has happened in the last year, we have all been able to express and experience some satisfaction in the growth that has taken place in our program and in our teams. It has been an honor to watch the staff invest in our youth, feel empowered in who they are, and grow in the training and skills they have developed to make life-changing differences in our youth. Celebrating the Changing Season Nexus Glen Lake marked the change of the seasons with fun activities for the campus! During Halloween week, staff participated in a pumpkin party and came up with some creative ideas. We even held a chili cookoff. Staff members brought in their own crock pots with a different chili recipe, and after much sampling, a winner was chosen! Glen Lake celebrated the holiday with a pumpkin party. Staff created carved and painted pumpkin faces. Nexus Glen Lake staff participated in a chili cookoff during Halloween week. Staff brought in a crockpot of their favorite chili recipe to be matched against challengers!
