CEO Message Dr. Michelle K. Murray President and CEO The Merriam Webster dictionary defines vision as “a thought, concept, or object formed by the imagination . . . the act or power of imagination . . . the mode of seeing or conceiving.” It is important for all leaders to have a vision; a vision sets the stage and helps employees envision the future of the organization. A vision helps focus everybody around goals and a common cause. A vision reflects what is possible and how the organization will exist many years to come. As CEO, I want to outline my 5- to 8-year vision for Nexus. In the coming decade, Nexus will do the following: 1. Be nationally recognized as a robust mental health provider Being recognized as a mental health provider places Nexus in the center of our field. This provides Nexus and its affiliates with recognition for what we actually do, while providing us the opportunity to participate in legislative efforts, to engage in discussions to secure the necessary funding we need to sustain our services, and to be involved in education and advocacy efforts. 2. Center our services around family stabilization to achieve long-term outcomes We will work to support, create, and redesign our services to achieve long-term family success. We will increase our services to families before, during, and through aftercare services, and will provide strong clinical case management to help families find the resources they need to be successful. 3. Focus on service expertise and continue to grow and expand our expertise Nexus’ service expertise includes Community Mental Health, Foster Care/Adoption, Residential Treatment, and Residential-Based Education. We will highlight our expertise, frame our services under these specific categories, and continue to seek ways to expand these services through acquisition, organic growth, and by developing service models that utilize the same expertise in new and innovative ways. 4. Envision opportunities to partner with a hospital for expansion in behavioral health As the mental health field shifts to a stronger emphasis on behavioral health, it would be wise for Nexus to pursue opportunities to create partnerships within the healthcare industry. Such a partnership would allow Nexus to provide mental health care to more clients, as well as create additional services for existing clientele. 5. Ensure educational and job readiness success for every youth Education is the only proven successful antidote to poverty. We will tie education success to every service we provide, track educational outcomes, and expand and certify our existing vocational programs so our clients can be self-sufficient and successful as adults. 1 | NOV/DEC 2018 A Vision for Nexus Direction for the Next Decade
